Space in the audience is limited and priority will be given to those who live in Croydon North.

For those unable to attend, the discussion will also be covered live on this website.

Gonville Academy, in Gonville Road, leader of the STEP Academy Trust, has kindly agreed to host the debate in its school hall.

Doors will open at 6.45pm followed by opening speeches at approximately 7.15pm.

The event follows successful hustings organised by the Advertiser prior to the local and general elections in 2010 and the London Assembly elections in May.

Editor Glenn Ebrey, who will chair the debate, said: "We're delighted to be able to give people the chance to quiz candidates ahead of what promises to be a keenly contested by-election.

"Previous debates provoked lively discussion and engaged readers on the key issues before they went to the polls and I am sure this will be no different.

"In an ideal world we would be able to include every party but with so many taking part we have taken the difficult decision to limit the numbers to make the event practical.

"With six candidates on the panel, residents who come to the debate – or follow it online – will have the opportunity to hear from the main contenders, who will in turn get a fair chance to have their say.

"We're very grateful to Gonville Academy for agreeing to host what should be an interesting evening."

Mark Ducker, executive head teacher of Gonville, said: "Enabling the local community to engage in important democratic processes, fits well with the mission of the STEP Academy Trust.

"That said, Gonville Academy is delighted to support the Croydon Advertiser by hosting the hustings for the forthcoming by-election in Croydon North."

To apply for a place at the debate please email gareth.davies@croydonadvertiser.co.uk with your name, address, contact details and a question you would like to put to the panel.

The Croydon North by-election, which follows the death of Malcolm Wicks, will be held on November 29.
