A BIRD-LOVER is becoming increasingly worried about his parrot.

African grey Charlie, worth around £800, escaped from his aviary in Lee Jell's back garden in Caterham Drive, Old Coulsdon on January 31.

And despite the recent icy temperatures and length of time missing, Mr Jell, 30, is still hopeful the bird is alive.

"They are tropical birds, but I've spoken to a guy at the Parrot Society who said they find warm places and stay there if necessary," he said.

"They are worth a lot, but it's not about the money."

Anyone with information about Charlie's whereabouts can call Mr Jell on 07981 372817.
