A PILLAR of the community claims he has no confidence in police after witnessing a "mini riot".

Chris Baguley, organiser of RAF Kenley Air Day, witnessed a violent street brawl involving a youth with a baseball bat near his home.

As a good citizen he immediately called the police who rushed to the scene in Foxley Road, Kenley.

Officers took down detailed statements from Mr Baguley and his wife Jean at their home in Cullesden Road, following the incident on June 23 at 9.30pm.

The air enthusiast thought an investigating officer would call him immediately to get detailed descriptions of the assailants.

But it was seven weeks before Mr Baguley, former chairman of Kenley and District Residents' Association, received any such phone call and was called "Mr Black" by a police officer.

He said: "All I can say about the incident was it looked like a mini riot. One group of youths had come to the recreation ground and tried to get the usual group, who are no trouble, out.

"One girl drove down the street and a youth had a baseball bat and was trying to smash the window in. It was terrible.

"I cannot fault the rapid response team at all. But when it takes several weeks for the investigating officer to call, you have to ask yourself what is happening.

"I was a good citizen for reporting this and the police, as public servants, should have followed this up correctly. When you report a crime you expect something to be done about it."

Mr Baguley said because so much time had passed since the incident, he and his wife could not remember many details.

He added: "The trail on this went cold a long time ago.

"So I ask what value is good citizenship? In this respect pretty poor value for money council tax wise."

Mr Baguley said he was also angry he never got a response from the village's Safer Neighbourhood Team after writing them an e-mail, instead receiving a long letter from civilian and panel member Phil Royse.

Although police would not respond to Mr Baguley's criticisms, they confirmed officers were called to the incident.

A spokesman said: "Officers investigated and arrested two suspects on suspicion of criminal damage. However, the victim later decided not to pursue the allegations and the suspects were released without charge."
