A TEENAGE yob whose hate campaign forced a police officer and his family to flee their home has been handed an Asbo.

Charlie Marney, 17, was hit with the order on Tuesday after bringing months of terror to New Addington.

Police told how Marney was the ringleader of a 19-strong gang who attempted to evade justice by silencing witnesses with intimidation and threats

Croydon Magistrates' Court heard how the lawless lout:

Subjected a police officer to a hate campaign, forcing him and his family to leave the estate

Almost mowed down children while riding his moped

Drunkenly abused locals and threw eggs at their homes

Caused repeated damage to the children's play area at Hares Bank

Vandalised cars and slashed their tyres

A catalogue of incidents was presented to the court in the tearaway teen's absence after he failed to show for his hearing on Tuesday, despite it being scheduled six months earlier, because he claimed he had got the date wrong.

Prosecuting, Kuljit Bhojal said Marney had been given an interim Asbo in November.

He added: "There was an investigation involving a police officer who covered the area, where he was forced to move out of the family home in Addington, forced to move his children out of local schools, change the area he policed, and change the family car – all because of the threats he and his family received."

The court heard Marney – who has a photograph of one of his police charge sheets on his Facebook profile – and friends were often seen hanging around Hares Bank play area, drinking and causing trouble until 2am.

Under the terms of the Asbo, which lasts until February 2015, Marney, a former Addington High pupil, is prevented from seeing 20 of his friends in public, entering an exclusion zone including the Hares Bank play area and either riding, being a passenger or even sitting on a moped or motorbike.

Sergeant Paul Potter of the Addington Safer Neighbourhoods team said: "People are genuinely fearful and reluctant to make statements because they are scared of reprisals.

"Witnesses have been tormented when assisting with police investigations."

Charlie Marney’s Asbo, which runs until February 2015, means he must not:

  1. Behave in a manner which causes or is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to anyone not of the same household as himself or to encourage other people to behave in this way anywhere in Croydon;
  2. Assault or threaten any person with violence, and/or be verbally abusive or offensive towards any person in Croydon;
  3. Swear or engage in verbal abuse anywhere in a public place in Croydon;
  4. Enter an exclusion zone, comprising the children’s play areas in Hares Bank and Queen Elizabeth’s Drive, save for entering football pitch to play football at any time;
  5. Sit on, ride, or be a passenger on any mechanically propelled ‘go-ped’, moped, quad bike, tricycle, motorbike, or motorcycle, other than public transport anywhere in Croydon and Bromley, save for on a public highway;
  6. Drink alcohol or smoke/take any controlled substance in any public place in Croydon;
  7. Join or be present in a group of more than three people (including himself) in a public place which is acting in a manner likely to cause alarm or distress to any person anywhere in the London Borough of Croydon.

Last year Marney's sister Georgia was jailed for three and a half years after crashing a stolen car into a lamppost and killing her best friend.

Georgia Marney, then 17, had been drinking beer and smoking cannabis at a party before taking her mother’s car on August 28, 2010.

Croydon Crown Court heard how Marney’s speed increased and she started to swerve and hit parked cars, before crashing into the post.

Mikeala Stevens, 17, died of her injuries.

Georgia Marney, who has previous convictions for criminal damage and assault, admitted causing death by dangerous driving and three other charges.

She was jailed in September last year.

    “All these names were listed on the other report:

    Robert Elsey, Kieron Hawker-King, Dean Riley, Joe Dering, Aaron Henry, Andrew Driscoll, Stephen Forster, Stephan Elsey, Demoy Lamont, Carl Martin, Daniel Sweeney, Stephen Sweeney, Ben Hope, Danny Brown, Luke Jackson, Steven Dering, Anthony Patton, Michael Uffindell, Darren Thompson and Jack Marchese

    Are they all in line to get asbos given to them too?

    It's quite a confusing situation, why have only these two boys been picked out?”

    “I see I have collected a minus rating for daring to mention spelling, grammar and punctuation.

    lucky you only had to click on a red arrow isn't it!

    anything else might have been too difficult?”

    “People keep going on about the Addo Army, well if you have your own army they why not kick these people out of the area IF you don't like them?

    I get moans about commenting on New Addington, but I am commenting on stories in the local paper, the local paper is projecting the image of New Addington by telling the entire world about the scum you keep there as pets,
    Perhaps you should be complaining to the paper that they don't post enough nice stories about the area and actually try to change public perception.

    From my point of view, as a kid my bikes were nicked many times, once by the Parries in Forestdale, once by the Kennedys on Monks Hill, and the other four times guess where the bikes ended up.
    My garage was broken into, the police caught the kid, guess where he lives.
    Same with the shed, my lawnmower went to Addington.
    Car broken into on the driveway, guess where the police found the tax disc in a Sierra being driven by a 14 year old?

    My opinions are based on personal experience, if you don't like them then may I suggest your Army puts the broom down and controls your natives”

    “3rd eye - well done! I thought I was pushing my luck challenging spelling on this site. I've not mentioned grammar or punctuation but for a bit of timewasting you could play spot the apostrophe!

    Why is it half the kids in school now have learning difficulties? I think in my day it was put down to teaching difficulties. Remember more GCSEs were passed this year than ever before.”

    “@ Croydon hippo
    You are pulling people up on their use of the English language, yet you cannot spell the punctuation you are referring to.
    Commer was a British manufacturer of commercial vehicles which existed from 1905 until 1979.
    A comma is a punctuation mark.

    Something to think about before you deride others in the future.

    I think that is what the youngsters refer to as a FAIL!!!!!!”

    I think this is the reason people wont come forward. Similar story and look what happened. Giving evidence doesnt just have an effect on the person giving it. It can have repercussions that are far-reaching.
    Still maybe the fact they were awarded £600,000 in compensation may change someones mind : DavyRavy and others, if it does go wrong then this case has set a precedent £600,000 is more then enough to relocate and start a better life elsewhere”
