SOME of Croydon's most kind-hearted and considerate children have been recognised with Good Citizenship Awards.

Drawn from 15 of the borough's primary schools, 29 children have won awards.

Run by Croydon Council, the awards are designed to recognise the contributions many youngsters are making to their schools and communities.

Among the schools celebrating is Spring Park Primary, in Bridle Road, Shirley.

Pupils Angela Brako and Tionne Virgo, both 10, were among the winners.

Angela, a committed anti-bullying campaigner, said: "I hope I am setting a good example for other people to follow.

"My biggest personal achievement is setting up 'circle time' which involves talking to four and five-year-olds at the school about bullying."

Fellow winner Tionne describes herself as being like a "behaviour police woman" as she makes it her business to confront naughty kids at the school.

She explained: "I'm not afraid of standing up for the things I believe in, and I am supported by my teachers and other pupils at Spring Park."

There was further reason for Spring Park to celebrate as two local neighbourhood wardens, nominated by the school, won a prize in the citizenship contest.

As well as honouring children the awards recognised the two wardens making the most significant contribution to their community by working with local schools.

And the top prize went to Stephen Whitehead and Stanley Enyinnaya.

Angela, Tionne and all the other winning children received a certificate and medal and Stephen and Stanley received a gift voucher and certificate.

Spring Park Primary School received a shield to display at the school for nominating the winning wardens.
