A bank clerk has been convicted of six charges of fraud totalling £74,000.

Samantha Macpherson committed the offences in March last year whilst working at the Co-op Bank, in George Street, Croydon.

The 24-year-old, from Oxted, was granted bail at Croydon Crown Court and will be sentenced on November 27.

She had denied being involved in the transfer of the money from customers' accounts.

In evidence she claimed there was a culture of lax security at the bank, and that computer passwords were shared around.

But this was denied by others at the bank and a jury found her guilty.

“"Colin, the Co-operative Bank has not taken a penny from the government/taxpayer. It also does not pay huge bonuses to any of its staff.

Its owned by its members, its customers.

Good, safe banking. Pity this one member of staff did not realise the Co-operative Bank has ethics and is different from the big banks." SV, Croydon

Hear Hear, exactly right, the Co-op is the only safe ethical place to bank.”
