AFTER a disappointing performance last week Beddington travelled to table-topping Camberley determined to make amends, but had to settle for a losing draw despite dominating much of the match.

Losing the toss and being asked to bat, the opening partnership of Ian Gamble and Dave White made a solid start. After the loss of Gamble, Simon Lewis continued to increase the scoring rate and took advantage of the short square boundaries.

However, both White (37) and Lewis (38) fell without going on to make a substantial score and there was a danger that Beddington's final total would fall short.

The partnership between Antony Down and Ryan Cummins initially checked the fall of wickets and then took the score steadily towards the 200 mark. Down fell for 52 and Cummins 35 that included some typical aggressive hitting.

Beddington posted a final score of 229-8 off their 55 overs.

In reply Camberley quickly fell behind the required rate due to the accuracy of Cummins and David Lester who took the first two wickets.

Beddington's overseas player Paresh Vallbah continued to turn the screw with an excellent spell that included three wickets.

However, as the visitors looked to press towards victory with some attacking fields, Camberley edged closer to the winning draw. It came down to the final over from Cummins with 11 required to secure the four points for Camberley.

A huge six off the second ball and a hastily run single off the last ultimately led to disappointment for Beddington.

Although only two points have come from the last two games Beddington remain the only undefeated team in the league and know that with a change of fortune they will return to winning ways soon.

In the other Surrey Championship fixtures there were wins for both the second and third XIs.

Jon Coles scored a fluent 80 as Beddington II posted 211 from their 55 overs against Old Whitgiftians. Some aggressive batting from the Old Whits batsman gave them a sniff of victory however, this approach eventually saw for their downfall as captain Darren Cuff took five wickets to give Beddington victory.

The third XI had a much easier afternoon with the game against Leatherhead being abandoned due to the poor state of the playing surface, resulting in the full 13 points being awarded to Beddington.
