For a 10-year-old boy to take on a charity run is commendable enough.

But when he is prepared to do so whilst wearing a pink tutu and pink leggings, he is also an extremely plucky youngster.

Zeke Williams was so moved by the plight of those in earthquake-stricken Haiti he decided to put his best foot forward - and do a sponsored run with a difference.

The youngster, from Purley Downs Road, Sanderstead, said: "I saw the sad pictures on TV of children whose homes had been destroyed.

"I decided I must do something about it. When I asked some friends at school for sponsorship they weren't so keen - until I told them I would do it while wearing my sister's tutu."

Since making the eyebrow-raising decision last week, the money has flooded in.

Already he has been pledged over £300 in sponsorship from pupils, teachers and governors at Regina Coeli Primary School, in South Croydon.

Zeke has also received support from teammates at both Warlingham Colts Football Club and Sanderstead Cricket Club.

His fundraising run takes place on Saturday when he will run five kilometres around Roundshaw Park, in Wallington.

His mother Caroline said: "Zeke is very gifted at sport.

"We have always told him he is very fortunate to have such a talent.

"He wants to help others less-fortunate through his running. We're proud of him."

“Come on Caroline, Zeke Williams' mum!

Set him up on JustGiving and give us all chance to make a donation to support him!

I hope someone films his run in the tutu! He will surely appreciate the reminder when he is older!”
