A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Shirley builder Mark Corcoran.

At a press conference this afternoon (Tuesday) police confirmed the major breakthrough.

Mr Corcoran died from a stab wound after being attacked in Whitehorse Lane, South Norwood, close to Selhurst Park, on Sunday evening.

He staggered into an off licence and pleaded for the police to be called before collapsing to the floor.

Yesterday his family told the Croydon Advertiser he was a "normal 26-year-old" who would never have carried a weapon or looked for a fight.

Mr Corcoran's stepdad Alan Smith said that he and Mark's mum Julia Smith were woken up in the early hours of Monday morning to be told the awful news that their son had been killed.

The couple said they had no idea why their son would have been attacked.

Mr Corcoran had attended a Valentine's Day wedding earlier on the day he was attacked.
