PALACE boss George Burley is hoping to wrap up a deal for a left back today to solve his defensive headache for Saturday's Championship opener against Leicester.

New signing David Wright is struggling with a hamstring strain and is unlikely to be fit for the weekend. That leaves teenager Nathaniel Clyne as Burley's only available full back.

With last week's expected transfer of Tony Capaldi falling through at the final minute Burley was reluctant to name the defender, but admitted he was desperate to get it done before Saturday.

"We are hoping to tie up a deal for a left back today," he said. "We have been working hard all week to strengthen the squad as we are very short of numbers.

"But our hands have been tied a little bit with the administration situation."

The Eagles are still waiting for the Football League share to be transferred to CPFC 2010. Until that is done the club remain in administration.

Palace had an initial offer for Plymouth Argyle left back Onismor Bhasera knocked back earlier in the week.

    “L0uis 4-6-0
Why do you come out with comments like if Calvin Andrew is played on the left wing in your opinion he CAN IMPRESS.
L0uis, Lofty sums you up, you cannot possibly see how Players like Andrew have performed last season by listening to games on the Radio, reading the match reports in the Henfield Times & reading Mick Jone`s Blog.
L0uis 4-6-0, with you attending Matches this season then you can comment on the players & teams performances but if you honestly think Calvin Andrew can play on the left wing & do a decent job then obviously you are clueless about Football.”

“Calvin Andrew = mis control, running after the ball he didn't trap then falling over when he goes to pass it! The only good thing he did last season was to close down space which caused panic with opposing defenders.”
