PRICE CUT: NCP has cut prices at its town centre car parks
Car park operators NCP have slashed charges in multi-storey car parks in Croydon by up to 30 per cent.
It is hoped the move will bring more shoppers into the town after a recent slump in visitors.
William Barron, of NCP, said: "There has been a decline in the number of people coming into Croydon and in the present economic circumstances what we are trying to do is attract people back and boost business in the local area."
NCP is cutting the cost of parking for up to five hours - the average time the company believes shoppers spend in the town centre - from £7 to £5 in the main Allders and Whitigft car parks.
Some other charges in the two car parks are also being reduced.
The decision has been welcomed by Ros Morgan, manager of the Croydon Business Improvement District (BID) which has been in regular discussion with NCP over parking charges.
Ms Morgan said: "This is really good news. NCP are trying to do everything they can to support the businesses that are here."

“This is a very positive and welcomed initiative by NCP to hopefully encourage more visitors to Croydon.
The next step is for this good news to be properly circulated across the area by all the businesses in Croydon including the media to encourage more visitors.”

“Now they have to tackle the gangs of youths who go round intimidating everyone.
I do not shop there any more preferring to drive to Sutton where I feel safe.”

“About time too! the charges have been too high for years, however, they should match those of Bromley -then Croydon can compete on the same parking level.”
