Children to miss out on London 2012 tickets after schools fail to register
HALF of Croydon youngsters are set to miss out on the chance of free Olympics tickets – because their schools have not bothered to register for them.
Some 125,000 passes are up for grabs under the Get Set scheme, paid for by the event's sponsors.

But with the deadline for the giveaway looming next Friday, just 70 of the borough's 136 schools – 51 per cent – have registered.
In neighbouring Sutton and Lewisham, 73 and 80 per cent of schools respectively have applied.
London mayor Boris Johnson said: "The Get Set network will give London's children a chance to see the greatest show on earth in their home city, and embrace the experience of the Games first hand.
"This is my direct message to teachers, parents and children – don't miss out. Kids, you should be pestering your teachers endlessly to make sure they are doing all they can to get you to the Games.
"Applying for the network is simple and quick, but there's just a week left to get online at London 2012."
For the London 2012 Olympics, about 23,000 tickets have been allocated for events in Olympic Park venues, including the Aquatics Centre and the Velodrome.
A further 18,500 are available for events being staged at venues across London, including beach volleyball at Horse Guards Parade and archery at Lord's cricket ground. Some 18,000 London schoolchildren will get the chance to visit Wembley Stadium to watch Olympic football.
More than 5,500 tickets will be available for sports at venues on the outskirts of the capital, including rowing at Eton Dorney, canoe slalom and sprint at Lee Valley White Water Centre and mountain biking at Hadleigh Farm, Essex.
The remaining 60,000 tickets will give youngsters access to the 2012 Paralympic Games athletics events being held in the Olympic Stadium.

“Hey we can't label people as 'Addo Types'
I have been reliably informed that there are just a percentage of bad apples that do all the crimes (not aware how big the percentage of this lot is)
Suspect theres a load of others too frightened to leave the house and another massive group with those Council Terriers that the scum leave alone because they have the same dogs
And a couple of saints, and a greavsie”

“I guess some will have decided not to apply because of the difficulty of get children to the venues safely and of course some schools may have children that are too young to attend such events.”

“Tbabygib - What on earth is an "addo type?" I know plenty of decent people from New Addington. You can't lump everybody in the same boat just because there are a few bad apples. That's just not fair.
And with regards to tickets, we paid for the Olympics and as far as I can see, there is no benefit to Croydon or its people.”

“That's the point nicecityboy. We are just a cash cow to the government and all because we live in London.
There will be no benefit to Croydon what so ever, yet we continue to fund these games whilst those dss scroungers in Stratford East London not only have a huge regeneration projection going on, but are lavished with free tickets for the games.”

“Wait a minute, why should children be getting free tickets anyway? Where's my free ticket?!
As a young adult I get the raw deal here - my taxes will fund the games, I couldn't get any tickets for love nor money, and was willing to pay high prices for them. I will be inconvenienced by thousands of tourists disrupting my journey to work, not to mention all the building work and maintenance work which seems never ending and is a massive disruption. How is this good for me?”

“the teachers were probably on strike at the time, or gone home by 3:30pm, or on one of those many many days holiday they get each year
(its ok teachers we know, you've got your marking)”

“Typical Croydon schools, lazy, just like the students they teach.
But more importantly, where are my free tickets? I paid for the Olympics through my taxes, so I demand a ticket. And no matter what they say, Croydon will NOT benefit from the Olympics.”
