A proud mum has thanked her 'angelic' children who came to the rescue when she suffered a severe allergic reaction.

Alison Hills has heralded six-year-old Aimee and Danny, 11, as her 'guardian angels' after they discovered her unconscious and called paramedics – potentially saving their mother's life.

Mrs Hills, 38, had gone into anaphylactic shock after taking penicillin on Monday and had collapsed in the bathroom at the family home in Brigade Place, Caterham-on-the-Hill, when her children found her.

She said: "I had woken up with a sore throat and found some penicillin, it was for my son but I'd had it before and thought it would be fine.

"I could feel my head and neck becoming numb, I unlocked the bathroom door but after that I don't remember anything.

"The children were upstairs and heard me breathing strangely. Aimee ran in and found me slumped over and unconscious."

Danny, who along with his younger sister attends Whyteleafe School, quickly rang for an ambulance, called his father David, and checked his mother's airway was open while Aimee rushed to get blankets for Mrs Hills.

Mrs Hills, who also thanked the paramedics for their help, said: "When the ambulance arrived, Danny let them in and was helping by holding up the drip equipment for them.

"They both did so well, I'm so proud of them.

"They are like my guardian angels."

Mrs Hills was taken to East Surrey Hospital in Redhill where she was treated by doctors and given an EpiPen auto injector in case she suffers another allergic reaction in the future.

She was released later that day, and said she can not believe how quickly her young children were able to react to what was happening.

She said: "I'm surprised at how well they did. They were in the house on their own, and they must have been frightened making that 999 call because even adults find it scary.

"I asked the doctors what would have happened if the children hadn't found me and they said I may have come round, but I may not have done.

"I'm just so pleased they were there for me, I don't know what would have happened if they weren't."
