A PRAM and a bag of discarded cutlery were among the finds when volunteers cleaned a brook which runs through the north of Croydon.

Members of the Friends of Thornton Heath Rec teamed up with waterway charity Thames21 to clean Norbury Brook.

The body of water, which is a tributary of the River Wandle, has become a dumping ground for all manner of rubbish and litter.

Once a year volunteers give up their time to clean the brook, which rung alongside Thornton Heath Recreation Ground and then into Norbury.

Friends group member Shasha Khan was one of the 20 people who donned Wellington boots and gloves to help with the clear up.

He said: "We followed the brook all the way up to Norbury and found quite a lot of bottles and rubbish along the way. At one point I found a bag full of cups and cutlery, which someone could have disposed of another way, or given to charity, rather than dump."

Judith Ressler, from Thames21, added: "Many people use this recreation ground and the river looks like a ditch so people chuck everything in it, which is a shame. However, it looks great after the effort."
