Coulsdon businesswoman celebrating 10 years of support
AFTER leaving her marketing job, Sharon McLean decided to go it alone to offer support to women wanting to make their way in business.
Next month her company, Business with Excellence, based in Coulsdon, celebrates its 10th birthday with a trademark networking event at the Hallmark Hotel on Purley Way, Croydon.
Ms McLean said: "I did a lot of research and found that there were a lot of women who were leaving their professional jobs, perhaps to start a family, and who wanted to start out on their own.
"At the time there was very little support available for them."

Business with Excellence set out to address the problem by offering support and arranging events at which businesswomen could receive advice on things such as creating business plans and marketing.
Within a year, she added another string to her bow in response to demand from clients and set up a regular programme of networking events, which have continued since.
Ms McLean said: "There are a great many more women involved in business now running their own firms full-time or even as a part-time hobby, but I am still surprised at how well we are doing."
She said: "I have extended the scope of the business so that we are now offering support, advice and networking opportunities to any companies."
The birthday event which will be held on Friday July 6 between 6pm and 10pm includes speed networking, a business exhibition a chat show with experienced entrepreneurs.
Admission is free but pre-registration is required by contacting Ms McLean on 01737 558416 or 07958 183429 or e-mailing info@businesswithexcellence.com

“How does she make money from doing this? Sounds more like a charity than a business!
Also, I could not imagine the grief a man would get if he founded a support service for male buinessmen?!”
