A Coulsdon teenager was stabbed by a gang of youths as he made his way home along a footbridge.

The 19-year-old was walking along the bridge between Woodman Road and Woodmansterne Road, Coulsdon, at 12.30am on Sunday, June 28.

A group of young males was said to have approached him from behind.

He was struck on the back by an unknown man in the group, but continued home, where he discovered a small puncture wound.

The victim was taken to a South London hospital by London Ambulance Service, where he received treatment.

The injury received is not life threatening. The man has now been released from hospital.

PC Vicky Courtnell said:

"This is a seemingly random attack on a young man. I am appealing for anyone that may have been in the area to come forward with information as to what happened.

This kind of violence will not be tolerated and I am keen to hear from any witnesses to help progress this case and bring those responsible to justice."

Anybody with information should call Croydon CID on 020 8649 0147 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The attack happened accident the day before the bridge had to be demolished after it was struck by an engineering vehicle.

Train services between Woodmansterne and Purley were cancelled all day Monday as a result of the accident.

“Maybe its time those who allow or perpetrate this are made personally accountable.

Powers that be won't help as they only roll the dice for 4 years before escaping with full benefits. Not our problem, talk to the encumbant authority is the constant cop out.

So they move from Smitham to a bridge where no knife inspections are yet carried out.

Pals, it is your country too and its up to you how much you want to tolerate before taking effective action.

This never happened 30 years ago..it's the first generation decendants plus that are the root cause.

Overpopulation, little opportunity, being thick and family engendered bitterness is passed on whether from East or West or Croydon.”

“Thanks for the photo of a knife - I wasn't sure what one looked like. As it was a small puncture wound, are you sure it was made by poking a large knife in just a little or could it have been a much smaller knife poked further in?”
