Council chiefs are remaining tight-lipped about the final outcome of an employment tribunal.

Alan Langridge won his case for constructive unfair dismissal in September after a tribunal found he was forced out of his job as a senior council officer at Croydon Council.

He claimed he was left feeling "very ill" because of the way he was treated at the end of his nine-year stint working on the council's finances.

A remedy hearing – to decide the pay-out Mr Langridge would receive – was due to be be held on Monday, but that hearing didn't go ahead as it appears the two parties have come to an agreement.

A spokesman for Croydon Council told the Advertiser: "While understanding your interest, I regret that the council is unable to comment further on this matter as it has now been resolved and in reaching agreement both parties have agreed to be bound by a confidentiality clause."

Mr Langridge's legal team also confirmed they couldn't comment any further on the matter.

The 45-year-old was set to receive a pay-out amounting to tens of thousands of pounds.

“The reason the Council are saying nothing is because they have reached what is called "a compromise agreement" with Mr Langridge. This allows him to get more money than the compensation due to him while agreeing to say nothing about the deal and taking no further legal action against the Council. In effect, they've paid him to keep his mouth shut. Employers normally do this when they realise they are in the wrong and don't want any bad publicity.”

“Croydon Council's culture of bullying is well ingrained and supported at the highest level. Notice how they say nothing about this defeat. Langridge has obviously been bullied out of his job and Tax payers will foot the bill. So much for efficiency.”

“I am sure someone reading this must have known what went on, go on Advertiser use your investigative skills, if they wont divulge what happened then it must be worth knowing, surely if it is our taxpayers money being used to compensate this guy we should be informed of the reason he is being paid.”
