MOVE IT: The bus stop shoppers want relocated
Croydon Council is being urged to sort out the bus stops in Addington Road.
Selsdon Residents' Association (SRA) says locals have been waiting for the stops near Sainsbury's to be switched around to make life easier for shoppers.
Plans proposed in 2008 mean the 412 Purley-bound bus should be stopping outside the supermarket instead of the West Croydon-bound 412.
The West Croydon-bound service should share a stop with the 359 bus in the nearby slip road.
This way shoppers would not have to walk with heavy shopping to Selsdon Park Hotel, where the Purley-bound stop is and squeeze onto the narrow pavement there.
But SRA chairman Paul Shaw says the changes never materialised. "Goodness knows what's taken it so long," he said.
"It shouldn't be too much hassle to change the signs around, we all want them to be moved to make life easier for shoppers.
"You see a lot of people having to run with shopping to catch the Purley bus because it's a fair distance from Sainsbury's."
As the council did not act, the funding it received from Transport for London has now been spent on other projects.
A council spokesman said last year's gasworks in Addington Road were the cause of the delay.
He added: "With the agreement of TfL, the funds that had been allocated for the work were used elsewhere."
The council, he explained, is now liaising with TfL with the aim of relocating the bus stop at no cost to council.
