On Sunday 29th May Motorsport at the Palace arrived for it's fabulous two day motorsport grand prix and car show, complete with stalls and funfair for the kids, there were plenty of classics to admire including a Porsche, Lotus, Ferrari, Skyline and zooped up camper van.

The bank holiday weekend might have been something of a washout weather wise, but if you're a vintage car lover and local Palacian then it may have been the best weekend of the year. For the early part of the afternoon the sun was blazing and crowds gathered around the twisted park walkways, which made a perfectly challenging race course and those lucky enough to have a ticket could sit comfortably on the grassy banks and enjoy all the action close up, unfortunately I was not one of them.

I watched the cars pass the terraces and round the bend by the side entrance to the lower end of the park and admired the classic cars on show along the top. Moments after Terence Kitson's Cooper T 72 had completed the final run of the day, the rain started, but by then the spectators were starting to filter out of the park after a fantastic day of racing and all the action was filmed courtesy of Croydon TV.

The battle for fastest time of the day was finally won by Mike Field in the Stohr DSR, but by the narrowest of margins. 'Congratulations to Mike who posted a best time of 35.85 and to Fyrth who managed an impressive 35.9.'

Motorsport at the Palace 2011 had a lot to live up to following last year's massive success, and considering all the smiling spectators I saw leaving the park, it was just as great. Looking forward to next year's, I might have a ticket for that one or you could give feedback in the spectator survey, to be in with a chance of winning a pair of tickets to Motorsport at the Palace 2012!
