Croydon Athletic 3 Worthing 1

TOM Davis scored on his debut as Croydon Athletic kept up the pressure on the play-off places with victory over a strong worthing side on Saturday.

Davis arrived at the KT Stadium on a month's loan from Dover Athletic last week, having been transfer-listed by the Blue Square South high-flyers.

And he made an immediate impression, striking in the second half to put the Rams 2-0 up after Scott Forrester had broken the deadlock with a screamer.

The crowd, who had taken advantage of Croydon waiving the admission fees for this match, were entertained in a goal-less first half with Joe Howe and Forrester going close for the hosts and Ben Johnson and Evan Archibald threatening for Worthing.

Forrester also had two clear runs on goal but was denied on both occasions by Worthing keeper Alan Mansfield.

The Rams took the lead with a spectacular volley from Forrester in the 50th minute, and two minutes later Davis made it 2-0.

It then got worse for Worthing as Paul Kennett was sent off for a second bookable offence, but the visitors still managed to pull one back on 66 minutes when a corner kick found Ben Williamson in the box at close range.

Any hope they had was crushed four minutes later though as Forrester found Danny Waldren and the midfielder belted the ball home from 20 yards.

Croydon Athletic: Flitney, Howe, Bourne, Smith (Bolarinwa), Blackwell (Williams), Lewis, Waldren, Piper, Forrester, Noel (Godfrey), Davis. Unused subs: Hill, Graham.
