Croydon Athletic have pulled out of this season's FA Cup competition.

The Rams were due to take on Kingstonian on Sunday (September 12) in the first qualifying round but have now confirmed they will not fulfil the fixture.

The decision, which has handed K's a bye into the next round, comes after the club postponed league games against Tooting & Mitcham on Tuesday night and Sutton United on September 18.

Officials at the club are striving to keep Croydon Athletic alive after claims their owner Mazhar Majeed was involved in an alleged international cricket spot-fixing scam. Majeed has been arrested and released on bail twice since the story broke more than a week ago, once in connection with the alleged spot-fixing and once relating to allegations that he used Croydon Athletic to launder money.

The uncertainty over his future involvement at the KT Stadium has led to the club's staff remaining unpaid for the month of August after cheques apparently bounced.

Manager Tim O'Shea and assistant Neil Smith left the club after the weekend defeat to Concord Rangers, and many of the players are expected to follow them out of the exit door leading to concerns that the beleaguered Rams might struggle to complete the season.

A statement on the Croydon Athletic website said: "The FA Cup match against Kingstonian scheduled for this Sunday has been cancelled and Kingstonian will get a bye into the next round.

"It was not felt feasible for the Rams to play this fixture in light of the current situation at the club."
