ALL TOO OFTEN: Croydon is one of the most likely places in Britain for you to be burgled
Homeowners in Croydon are among the most likely to be burgled in Britain according to a study.
Some 28 per cent of residents with a CR0 postcode who asked for a quote from price comparison website, MoneySupermarket, said they had been burgled at some point in the last five years.
This puts the area ninth in the UK for its prevalence of burglaries.
The results were based on 2.6 million home insurance quotes on moneysupermarket.com throughout 2008.
The worst hit area was Arnold, in Nottinghamshire, with 42 per cent of those asking for quotes saying they had been burgled.

“If I remember right, CR0 is the largest postcode area in the country by some distance, being the first postcode allocated after central London and before they'd worked out the 'right size' for a postcode.
Like everyone else though, I'm not terribly surprised. We were burgled this year, the police were very helpful and thorough, but didn't seem terribly optimistic that the offenders would be locked up.
I'm no great defender of the police - I think they should spend less time harassing law abiding members of the public and tourists with cameras for being suspected terrorists and more time doing something about unglamorous crimes like burglary and mugging - but ultimately the problem is our courts hand out derisory sentences (if they bother at all.) The next government needs to seriously look at sentencing. And if that means building double the number of jails we've got to tide us over until the law actually starts to be a deterrent again, then good - at least it'll help employment!”

“Thanks for the info Carol.
I didnt know that the CR0 post code covered such a vast area.
And by the list of places you mentioned it's no surprise to me that these areas are burglary hot spots.”

“When you consider how vast the CR0 postcode covers it is not really surprising, New Addington is CR0, some of Purley Way is CR0 and part of West Croydon area (Sumner Road) is CR0!!!”

“In Selsdon it tends to be car vandalism, rather than burglaries.”

“Its the people that make the place what it is. So that "something" that you want done about it is in their hands. They are the ones who go round trashing the place and giving it a bad name. Croydon is over, Ive avoided that place for years,”
