Croydon JFC clinched the Division Five title last Sunday with a 2-1 win at Southwark Carrib.

With Phoenix waiting in the wings to snatch the title from them, Croydon (pictured) went into their final match of the season knowing that only a victory would do.

The nerves told and they made a shaky start to the game allowing Southwark to pounce on a few chances in the first half.

Having weathered the storm, Croydon took the lead five minutes into the second half through Johnny Stubbs only for Southwark to equalise and then hit the post.

Croydon's Davy-Jo Anderson put his side back in command with a good run down the wing before being fouled. Anderson took the free-kick for Steve Longley to head home what proved the goal that guaranteed Croydon the title.

Manager Steve Chamberlain said: "This has been a very good year for this football club.

"We only got together last summer to form an adult team and to achieve this is excellent.

"With the adults' success and the Under 13s' success, this really does give the club something to celebrate.

"We have a very good group of players here and now we can build on this and go on to have much more success."
