Croydon boxer has sights on Haringey
BOXING: Junior Bayou, of Dynamo Boxing Club in Croydon, is due to contest the Haringey Boxing Cup this weekend.
If he came through an opening bout last night (Thursday) he would contest a semi-final on Saturday.
The 89kg class B boxer narrowly missed out on an Olympic place for the Ivory Coast. He flew to Casablanca for the qualifying competition, landing at 2am. He then had to fight at 10am that day, losing to the Cameroon national champion and picking up a rib injury.
Bayou was then offered the chance to box off for a place in the squad as a best loser, but was unable to do so. He has, though, been asked to represent the Ivory Coast in the 2013 World Games.
