Croydon police find 'AK47' under floorboards in Thornton Heath
CROYDON Police have found what is believed to be an AK47 hidden under floorboards in a house in Thornton Heath.
Officers were called at 6.05pm yesterday (Monday) after the homeowner reported discovering the weapon while carrying out renovations to the Warwick Road property.
Police, included a firearms officer, recovered the rifle and it will now be forensically analysed to see whether it is a genuine firearm and has been used in any crimes.
Enquiries are continuing to establish the previous occupants of the property.

"Thankfully it's not every day we get a discovery like this," said Detective Sergeant Kenny Windsor from Croydon CID.
"We've taken the firearm in for analysis to check if it is genuine. We'll also be making enquiries to establish if it is linked to any previous crimes, and to try and find out who might have put it there, although it appears that the item has been under the floorboards for several years."
