VICTOR Moses’ added a few more pounds to his growing price-tag with a stunning overhead kick to earn Palace a point against Barnsley.

Moses cancelled out Daniel Bogdanovic’s first half effort to ensure Neil Warnock’s side a 1-1 draw in an entertaining clash on a bitterly cold afternoon in SE25. However, one point could so easily have been all three as Palace’s top scorer Darren Ambrose fired a penalty against the cross bar after just two minutes.

The game began at breakneck pace with Barnsley missing a fantastic opportunity even before Ambrose’s penalty spot howler. Jose Fonte lost possession to Bogdanovic inside the opening minute leaving the rangy striker with a clear run on goal but his weak shot was palmed away by Julian Speroni.

With the very next attack of the game Moses jinked into the box down the Palace left and the visitors’ centre back Ryan Shotton hauled him down. Ambrose stepped up but his wild spot kick clipped the top of the bar and flew into the Holmesdale Road stand.

The rock hard pitch was leading to plenty of errors and it seemed only a matter of time before the first goal.

Palace were pressing the harder of the two teams and Clint Hill was denied by a fantastic save from Luke Steele after getting his head onto Ambrose’s corner.

The miss proved costly as within minutes the visitors were ahead.

Hill dawdled on the ball on the halfway line and Anderson Da Silva pinched it off the experienced defender’s toe to send Bogdanovic racing clear for the second time. He made no mistake this time around, slotting the ball neatly past Speroni to send Barnsley 1-0 up.

Despite the setback there were still plenty of positives for Palace, not least the impressive form of Moses. The talented teenager was causing all sorts of problems and should have levelled the game on 23 minutes. A long ball bounced through the centre of the visitors’ backline, Moses wriggled clear but fired a well struck volley straight at Steele in the Tykes goal.

Palace were growing frustrated and began to give away possession too easily. The recalled Freddie Sears was full of running but was having little joy down the left flank. The home support took their frustrations out on the referee and two linesmen who made a number of bizarre decisions.

Any injustice the Eagles fans felt was soon forgotten after the break thanks to a moment of true individual quality from that man Moses.

Fonte launched a free-kick to the edge of the penalty area, Alan Lee flicked on and Moses controlled the ball on his chest before launching into a fantastic overhead kick that flew into the far corner from 15 yards out.

It was a goal good enough to warm the coldest of Palace supporters on a sub-zero afternoon at Selhurst Park.

Moses was enjoying himself now and taking on the Barnsley defence at every opportunity. His tricks won a number of set pieces but the visitors from Yorkshire defended stoutly.

Ambrose wasted a chance from slightly further out than his earlier penalty blunder, blazing a free-kick from the edge of the box high over the bar after Darren Moore had handled the ball.

Palace were pressing hard for the winner. With 15 minutes remaining a quick throw by Moses released Sears down the right, the on-loan striker raced into the box and hit a low cross that Hassell somehow managed to clear for a corner with Lee waiting to tap home at the back post.

Soon after Ambrose floated in yet another free-kick, Lee won yet another flick on and Hill was denied by a sharp stop by Steele. Then Lee himself got his head on Neil Danns’ cross but couldn’t get enough purchase on it to trouble Steele.

Despite being outplayed for large periods of the second half Barnsley almost pinched victory with a fantastic effort from winger Emil Hallfredsson but Speroni was at his best to tip over the bar.

The final whistle blew soon after and Warnock and his team were forced to settle for a share of the spoils, a result that leaves them 12th in the Championship table still just four points outside the play-off positions.

Palace: Speroni, Clyne, Fonte, Davis, Hill, Derry, Danns, Ambrose, Sears (Hills 90), Lee (Andrew 89), Moses. Subs: Carle, Scannell, Ertl, Smith, N’Diaye.

Barnsley: Steele, Hassell, Moore, Colace, Bogdanovic (Hume 47), Hallfredsson, De Silva (Hammill 66), Gray, Dickinson, Shotton, Doyle. Subs: Kozluk, Foster, Campbell-Ryce, Preece, Macken.

“And these transfer windows are part of the course for so many sides going into administration,as they can't sell players in there hour of need.”

“Forum Referee and Peter,I agree with both of your statements and I do believe Jordan will have paid what is owed, before 27th January, whether its by selling 1 or 2 players or getting extra investment from else where.”

“Yes Peter that is why you do get slaughtered & your mate Luis 4-6-0, you 2 are the only people on this site who are still sticking up for Jordan, it`s got to the stage now that every time we pick up a paper it`s a story about Palace in which Jordan denies, Why doesn`t the club issue a statement to the fans & tell us what we owe & how we are going to get out this mess, we all know players are going to be sold in january, even the loony 2 Peter & Luis 4-6-0 must realise that.
Mr Jordan make a statement to the fans, tell us what is going on & start telling the truth.”

“Good post forum referee, one that gives valid points.

Some people may think that I wear rose coloured specs but I do realise the situation is not good but we do have to remain positive. I may get slaughtered again for saying so but I genuinely believe we will get out of this mess without the need for administration.”

“Luis, regardless of what SJ may want, and I too believe that he wouldn't want the club to go down the pan by choice, however I'm more worried that from the rumours that are currently circulating, it would appear that he probably won't have a choice!

I suspect that his funds have diminished, and that he is either running on empty or simply can no longer personally subside the club from his own pocket.

You are right that normally business men do leave paying their bills until the last minute, but you can't honestly tell me that being in a situation of owing the tax man is good for business nor good for the reputation of the club or his own name, no to mention then enhancing the prospects of trying to sell the club.

I'm sorry if it sounds negative, but I really do fear for the long term of the club on the basis of what we hear.

Yes it may well be hearsay, but it's only natural to worry about such a potential black hole. I truly hope it is just speculation, and if it turns out to be exactly that, I would happily issue you an apology for thinking such negative thoughts!”

    “Clive,
There is no point arguing with the Peter & Louis show, as L0uis keeps telling us Jordan is a businessman, he will pay all the debts at the very last moment because he has to keep his dosh in the bank for the interest.
In Goldberg we had a walter mitti dreamer, but in our current state is Jordan any better? The jury is still out.”

    “Peter
As I only live about 8 miles from Kettering, if you let me know what coffee you like and where you live I will bring you round a bottle and some humble pie for you to eat - you can share it with L0uis too if you like. I don't value your opinion on anything and I also think you will find that (most) people on this site are of the same view apart from your mate L0uis. Have a great Christmas and keep the insults coming and I hope you get a card from SJ (you name dropper) as you are such great mates having spoken to him years' ago”

“No Clive, the point is,until possible sale, in Jordan we have a businessman who will NOT let Palace go into administration he is,like as,a supporter, unlike foreign owners who try to make money, which they won't,and as Peter, keeps saying why should he tell anyone, his business, that he feels he has got in hand.”
