NEIL Warnock faces a return to his native city next month after Crystal Palace were drawn away to Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup third round.

The Sheffield-born Eagles boss is certain to get a hostile reception at Hillsborough after managing Wednesday's city rivals Sheffield United for more than seven years.

Despite currently being in the same division, Palace have not met the Owls in the FA Cup since 1973, when the Yorkshire side won a fourth round tie after two replays.

The two clubs drew 1-1 in the first game at Hillsborough and the replay at Selhurst Park, before Wednesday eventually prevailed 3-2 in a second replay at Villa Park.

The FA Cup third round matches will be played on the weekend of January 2 and 3.
