KICK OFF: Palace players help launch the event
Crystal Palace players have helped kick off an appeal to raise money for a cancer charity.
Representatives from Marie Curie Cancer Care were joined by Eagles players last week to launch the charity's "Happy Valley Walk".
The walk around the Old Coulsdon park will take place on September 13 and the charity wants as many people as possible to take part.
All money raised will go towards the charity paying for nurses to treat terminally ill people in their own homes,
Karen Green, of Marie Curie, said: "You can walk in memory of a loved one, or simply enjoy the lovely countryside as you stroll through quiet country lanes and across the farm tracks in the surrounding area.
"It's a perfect day out for people of all fitness levels and all funds raised will make a real difference to the lives of patients."
The walk starts at the Fox pub on Coulsdon Common and participants can choose one of two walks to suit them.
There is a three-mile walk for "light strollers" and a seven-mile walk "for the more adventurous".
Registration on the day takes place between 9.30am and midday.
The fee for taking part, which includes a free T-shirt, is £20 for a family of four, £10 for adults and £5 for children under 16.
