A CYCLIST was taken to Mayday Hospital after sustaining a head injury during collision with a taxi.

Concerned passers-by rushed to the 23-year-old's aid when he was knocked from his bike last Friday.

The man had been cycling on Croydon High Street when the incident occurred at 9.30am.

As he lay injured on the street half a dozen people came to help, one sheltering him with an umbrella.

As they waited for an ambulance to arrive one woman flagged down a bus making its way past the Spreadeagle pub and asked the bus driver for his jacket.

The driver duly obliged and the jacket was used as a makeshift blanket.

A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service said the 23-year-old was taken, as a priority, to Mayday Hospital suffering with a head injury.
