HELP AT HAND: Passers-by come to the aid of the cyclist
The man had been cycling on Croydon High Street when the incident occurred at 9.30am.
As he lay injured on the street half a dozen people came to help, one sheltering him with an umbrella.
As they waited for an ambulance to arrive one woman flagged down a bus making its way past the Spreadeagle pub and asked the bus driver for his jacket.
The driver duly obliged and the jacket was used as a makeshift blanket.
A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service said the 23-year-old was taken, as a priority, to Mayday Hospital suffering with a head injury.
