ATHLETICS: Tasha Danvers, the 400m Olympic bronze medallist, has admitted defeat in her battle with injury on the eve of this year's trials for London 2012.

The Croydon Harrier, 34, has not raced since 2009 but has been training with the aim of making an appearance in her home city.

Other Harriers who will be at the Birmingham trials include 100m sprinter James Dasaolu (second fastest in UK) and discus thrower Lawrence Okoye, who were both selected this week for Britain's European Championships team.

The event in Helsinki takes place from June 27 to July 1, four weeks before the Olympic athletics programme begins.
