JAILED: New Addington dentist Neel Uberoi could be struck off the dental register
Neel Uberoi, 62, of Firs Road, Kenley, was jailed for 24 months when he appeared at Southwark Crown Court on December 10..
Another of his sons Matthew Uberoi, 24, from Fulham, was jailed for 12 months.
Neel netted £110,000 profit by using inside knowledge from Matthew – which he gained while working as an intern at a broker's firm – to make money through lucrative share deals.
The General Dental Council will be looking at Neel's case and deciding whether an investigation – which could see him struck off the dental register – is needed.
Neel will also face confiscation proceedings on March 1.
However, this week his wife – who asked not to be named – said he was still getting backing from his patients.
She added: "He's such a popular dentist, he's loved very much by his patients. We've had wonderful, wonderful messages of support.
"Our son, who is also a dentist will now be taking over the practice for as long as is necessary."
The court during the trial, heard how Matthew Uberoi was an intern at a corporate broking firm during the summer of 2006, working on takeovers and other price sensitive deals.
On several occasions he passed inside information to his father in relation to three separate announcements, using coded e-mails about Chinese food.
Neel then purchased shares in those companies, making more than £100,000 profit in just seven days.
During sentencing, Judge Peter Testar said: "This offence is cheating and it is important for economic and social well-being to have clean markets.
"The public rightly recoils from the idea of people with inside information having a licence to print money."
He also told them that their response to the investigation and the subsequent trial was devious and deliberately dishonest.
Margaret Cole, director of enforcement and financial crime at the Financial Services Authority, who brought the case against them, said: "The sentences Matthew Uberoi and his father are facing clearly demonstrate that insider dealing is a serious crime with serious consequences."
Neel and Matthew were each found guilty of 12 charges of insider dealing at Southwark Crown Court on November 4.
