PALACE captain Shaun Derry insists Darren Ambrose will bounce back from his penalty spot howler against Barnsley on Saturday.

The Eagles' top scorer cannoned a second minute penalty off the top of the cross bar against the Tykes, a miss that ended up costing his side two points.

Victor Moses spectacular equaliser ensured the home side weren't left empty handed in a 1-1 draw, but a victory would have left Neil Warnock's side just one point outside the play-offs.

However, despite the disappointment Derry revealed all his team-mates rallied round Ambrose after the game.

"You would have put money on him scoring, but we said to him in the dressing room that he's already scored 13 goals and in many ways he has single-handedly got us into the position that we are in," said the captain.

"And you know with the quality that he's got he'll definitely bounce back. He's disappointed obviously, but he'll get plenty more chances playing for Palace."

Derry said the team felt that they had missed a good opportunity to climb the table on Saturday, but maintained his side could be happy with their progress so far this season.

"We are disappointed," he said. "It was a weird start to the game, it felt like a training game. Neither side were on top and both had really good chances to win. But I felt we perhaps shaded the game. It was tough out there, you couldn't really play much football but having said that I thought both teams adapted very well.

"If you look at some of the other scores that wasn't a bad result for us. We're still only four points off the play-offs and to be in that position with what we've had to put up with is a massive credit to the boys really."

Luis is not mad, he doesn't talk drivel, he is still learning English because he is really Spanish. But you wouldn't want Luis on the jury.
    Viva Espanya Luis”

“And as for not winning a game in 1st half, how many times have a side been 1 or 2 up at half time ending up drawing or losing. And no it is not drivel, clap trap or mad.
    HAPPY CHRISTMAS.”

“Wally,as I've said MANY times before, without a target man,and playing a smaller faster player that plays in a much deeper role it APPEARS that a side is playing without a forward. And things like penalties CAN come to early in a game before getting used to conditions. And I will NEVER change my view.”

    “Luis 4-6-0,
Most of your daft comments get shot to pieces by sensible people on this site, even Natalie & her school friends say you cannot honestly believe some of the things you come out, but you have just said you believe 100 % every comment you`ve made, if that is the case then you are madder than we think, in fact you are total bonkers, the last comment on Ambrose`s penalty coming to early completely sums you up Luis 4-6-0, you are mad, do you still knock around with Alice in Wonderland?
Lofty hit the nail on the head, he missed a penalty all top players have missed penalties, Baggio in a world cup final, Lineker to equal Sir Bobby Charltons 49 goals for england, Lampard recently against Man City & yet he scored 1 on sunday after having to take it 3 times, so Luis 4-6-0 saying it came to early in the game is like your 4-6-0 formation, you can lose a game in the 1st half but you cannot win a game in the 1st half comments & there are many more are total clap trap or as Clive says, drivel.”
