EAGLES skipper Shaun Derry heaped praise on man of the match Danny Butterfield after Palace's win over Peterborough.

Neil Danns bagged both goals in the 2-0 victory, but it was Butterfield's energetic performance that caught the eye of his captain.

The full back was used in a more attacking position than he is usually accustomed to and often found himself as the Eagles' most advanced player.

Butterfield excelled in his new role, he went to close to scoring in either half and set up Danns' opening goal to lift the tension inside Selhurst Park.

"I've known Butts for years and I've never seen him play in that role before, but the manager sees things in different ways and I thought he was brilliant today," said Derry.

"I thought all the boys were, coming off such a bad week."

The skipper also paid tribute to the Palace fans who responded to the bad news of last week in positive fashion.

"It was like a carnival atmosphere out there and they are going to be so important for us for the rest of the season," said Derry. "I was delighted that after a tough week we could give them a win."
