Eco-Citizen Awards
Back at the beginning of what we called summer the council launched its Croydon Eco-Citizen Awards
The award ceremony took place and the winners were announced. The event started with a rousing aria followed by a spectacular recycled fashion show. The catwalk was stunning and the outfits were flamboyant. This put everyone in the mood for a fun afternoon.
The winners are;-
Grace Onions – Recycler of the Year
Croydon BTCV – Natural Croydon
Friends of the Earth Croydon Branch – Best message or campaign
Jeremy Rickard – Low-Carbon Household
St Mary the Blessed Virgin Church – Favourite Green Project
Kingsley Primary – Primary School
Thomas Moore Schhol – Secondary School
Dulcie Bartolo – Croydon Eco-Citizen of the Year
All the winners were well deserved and received a really novel trophy and a certificate. The trophy was a record donated by Beano's and made into a clock. This incorporated the recycling theme as the record had been traded in for re-use and a new use found for it. I don't know who came up with the idea, but it will take some beating next year to find something so quirky and fun.
These awards will be running again next year, so all you green households, groups and individuals should think about telling the Environment and Sustainability Team at Croydon Council what you are doing and maybe next year you will be receiving an interesting trophy – I wonder what it will be.

“Mark ? Sara's one of those people who never bothers checking out her blog... and is far too busy replying to any of the comments left - I must remember to forget voting conservative at the next election!!”

“Sara, given your commitment to Green issues, why werent you, along withevery councillor except the Mayor, absent from the Croydon Federation of Allotments AGM recently? Given how high the uptake of allotments is in the borough, and the green living agenda, it would have been nice.”
