A mass brawl broke out near West Croydon train station last night (Wednesday) between around 40 youths armed with metal poles.
Bottles were thrown but the fight ended in just one arrest, of a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of carrying a weapon.
The street fight, which happened at the junction of London Road, Station Road and North End, at around 7.20pm was broken up by police.
An eyewitness said: "There were loads of bottles flying in the air and smashing in the road.
"Police were saying calm down and trying to break them up, and about five minutes later four police cars sped up to the scene.
"They parted them on the pavement and I heard them say 'there's one gang on that side, and another gang on the other'.
"Everyone was screaming and I saw one kid punching a man before the police pulled him off."
A police spokeswoman confirmed the 14-year-old remains in custody, while a 16-year-old boy was taken to hospital with an injury to his hand.
