CROYDON'S architects, landscape artists and construction engineers are to take part in an exhibition designed to promote the best of the borough's urban landscape.

The Croydon Built Environment Exhibition takes place in the Clocktower in Katharine Street, Croydon, from June 21 to 26, supported by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

Tarsem Flora, secretary of RIBA Croydon, Sutton and Bromley, said: "Croydon has suffered from a lack of imaginative ideas in its past and people's perception of it is poor."

But, he added: "That is fast changing and Croydon now has ambitious and exciting plans for the future."

Mr Flora cited proposals for improving Wellesley Road, the Gateway site at East Croydon and plans for new council offices as projects which "will all change the image of Croydon drastically and for the better".

He added: "Architects, engineers, landscape architects, planners and construction specialists all play a part in this and it's local talent that will be at the forefront of building the Croydon of the future."

In a separate part of the festival, the recently refurbished Impact House in Edridge Road, Croydon, is throwing its doors open to the public during the afternoon of June 30.

A tea party is being held on the top levels of the building, allowing people to combine a cuppa and sandwiches with panoramic views across the town centre.

Anyone interested in taking part in the exhibition or attending a VIP launch at the Clocktower on June 22 should e-mail the organisers at BEE@whitelabel consultants.org.uk by June 8.
