Extreme fly-tipping in Heron Road
During Monday (6th Feb) night and Tuesday morning (7th Feb), some moron decided to empty out the entire contents of their skip/van onto Heron Road.
I reported it to the council and the councillors yesterday. Still it has not been cleared up. The entire one end of Heron road is completely blocked. This obviously presents a major health hazard as no ambulance, police car of fire engine would be able to access this road of any of the surrounding roads.
-

They have blocked access to Heron Road and surrounding roads. Given that all of these roads are one way and there are essential gas works going on, it makes it impossible for an ambulance or a fire engine to access these roadss.
-

Whoever did this was renovating their property, there are all sorts of building materials, boxes, pipes. They way it's been organised in a box like shape makes it look like it was tipped out of the back of a truck
-

The moron who did this emptied out items including a bed headrest. Surely the police would be able to take DNA evidence of this. When I phoned the Met police they seemed so uninterested in investigating this. They said all they could do is to tell the council to clear it up. It's been over 24 hours and it hasn't been cleared.
It's a real shame we have such inconsiderate 'people' (using 'people' in the loosest sense of the word, as no civilised person would behave in such a way) living in Croydon who do such cowardly pathetic actions.
I emailed the council, the councillors Councillor Mark Watson (Labour), Councillor Patricia Hay-Justice (Labour) and Councillor Sean Fitzsimons (Labour)) and the MP (Barwell, Gavin (MP Croydon Central) MP Conservative) and the Member of the Greater London Assembly
(Steve O'Connell (Croydon and Sutton Constituency) ), it's been over 24 hours and not one of them has even sent an acknolwedgment of my e-mail - during election time they were happy to come and see me, but seemingly now it's too much effort to even reply to an e-mail. If you want to e-mail them too you can find their details here

“Quick update on this:
Croydon Council have now cleared the site - good job guys.
Just to clear up what nicecityboy said, I never said I saw a school bus of disabled children have to turn around, I said a 'vehicle - it was a med sized hatch back that couldn't squeeze through'. The school bus is what I have been led to understand comes at various points - hence the word 'including', don't ask me when, what the frequency is or how many it contains, I'm relaying what a resident told me.
Credit where it's due, the council got the job sorted in a reasonably quick time, sending a truck team to clear up what a single person wouldn't be able to. Well done to the council and everyone who helped get it sorted.”

“Well FarhanQ, if it really bothered you that much (which it obviously did as you have made all this fuss), you should have cleared some of it up!
Your solution of ringing the council, police, etc. just shows that you expect someone else to clear it up on yours and your neighbours' behalfs.
Sorry I forgot we are now in the era of the Blame culture in Britain, make a load of fuss and get others to resolve our problems for us. They can collect all the 'evidence' they like but is this really a serious enough case to waste resources on detective and forensics? I don't think so - just clear it up and forget about it and move on with your life!”

“certainly yes, I'm always happy to revisit my thoughts on this.
Firstly I didn't stand around and watch and do nothing, I reported it to the council, the police, the councillors, the MP and the street scene officer for Croydon straight away. I took photos so they would realise the severity of the problem. To their credit they managed to clean it up the next day. I asked around the local residents if they had seen anything or anyone doing it, many people walked past just shaking their heads and carrying on.
Look at the photos of the mess it is far more than anyone person could move on their own. I urged the police to come down and look at this so they could take some evidence to find out. Lastly as it was cleared up I posted the story online to raise awareness about it and to make see what we as a community can do to stop this from recurring.
I agree though getting into a debate with some people over this is a waste of time - perhaps I should have done as many others did, walk past and shake my head at the mess.”

“FarhanQ - you watched a school bus containing disabled children turn around as it couldn't pass the waste yet you did not make any attempt to move said waste to the side of the road? - Maybe one day common sense will prevail and 'community spirit' will bring you together to AT LEAST move the rubbish to the side, rather than jump on an internet site and complain about it?
Obviously it's a stupid and selfish act but are you telling me there was NOTHING any residents could have done to minimise the impact?
Quite laughable how you talk about taking responsibility yet you stand and watch these events unfold! I now invite YOU to revisit your thoughts on this.”

“I saw you taking pictures of this in the road the other day and thought you had done it as some sort of 'art work' project like Tracy Emin.
Im REALLY sorry but i reported you to the police for causing an obstruction and they said they would investigate.”

“As an update of this, a Croydon Council van has turned up to clean the mess. They have left behind the main mess and cordoned it off with some cones. One can only hope they have done this to examine some of the evidence for clues to who did this.
@nicecityboy -
a. this attitude of blaming the council for charging so much to collect is what is causing Croydon (and the UK as a whole) to slide down to a third rate place to live. It doesn't matter if they charge or not (incidentally it's free to go to factory lane and throw your rubbish.) Blaming other's for ones own selfishness is becoming something of a national disease.
It wasn't the council who tipped this rubbish in the middle of an unassuming road, the only person to blame is the moron who has no consideration for others - but of course sadly there are always going to be those people who blame the council rather and paint the culprits to be victims who had no choice but to dump their rubbish like this/insert any other anti-social behaviour in here.
b. Whether or not a vehicle (including a school bus for disabled children - is it still okay now?) could squeeze past or not (they couldn't they had to turn back - I witnessed this myself) isn't an issue and blaming the council isn't a solution - when people start to take responsibility for their actions again (there was a time when people used to take responsibility) then this would be a better place to live in again.
c. Are you saying that because it's a small side road it's okay and that it's not okay if it were a major road. Surely the act should be judged on its own merits - where it happens to occur is completely irrelevant.
I'd invite you to revisit your thoughts on this.”

“Nicecityboy, if people have money to renovate their house (as it looks like) and hire a container, surely they can afford to bring their sh*t to the skip?! There is no excuse for doing this whatsoever.”

“Looking at the first picture it is clear to see that vehicles could easily drive around the mess if they needed to, there is plenty of space to the right-hand side.
If the council didn't charge such high rates to collect waste and for waste disposal this kind of thing might not happen!
At least it's a small side road and not a main road or a park which would have been worse.”
