FREEDMAN ON FRIDAY: Late Bristol City goal was a kick in the teeth
Crystal Palace manager Dougie Freedman's weekly column for the Croydon Advertiser
I HOPE the fans who travelled to Bristol City on Tuesday night have spread the message that our performance at Ashton Gate was excellent, even if the final result was not what we were looking for.

To concede such a late goal was something of a kick in the teeth as I think everyone thought we had done enough to get the victory as our overall play, especially in the first half, was excellent.
I have said it many times in this column, but I am more concerned about the quality of the performance than the individual result. It is of course possible to play badly and win, but that would only be papering over the cracks.

If you can regularly put in good displays then you will win more games than you lose and over the course of the season you will end up where you deserve to be in the table.
I'll be honest and say that I think our last three games, against Brighton, Middlesbrough and Bristol City, have been three of our best performances of the season and, if things had worked out slightly differently, we could easily have come away with the three points.
On Tuesday night, especially, I thought the lads were outstanding. We were the better side, we played some great football to go two goals up and, on another day, would have had the game wrapped up well before the end.
KG and Mile Jedinak have really started to gel in midfield and I think we are starting to see Chris Martin strike up a good partnership which is causing teams a lot of problems, and at times against Bristol City I thought they were unplayable.
We have worked very hard in training on our play and giving our attacking players better service. I though Wilfried, who has been very consistent all season was exceptional on Tuesday and really deserved his goal.
Wilfried is an exciting young player who works hard at his game every day and is getting better, but at the moment he doesn't quite understand how to finish teams off. That will come over time.
Of course, for a side with a defensive record as good as ours it was very disappointing to let a two goal lead slip but it was a difficult place to come and I cannot fault the players.
It's a good point coming away from home but we can take away a fantastic performance with us and get back on the training ground and keep working at our game to make sure we take maximum points from games like this when we are in this kind of position.
We set standards for ourselves and go out to try to win every game and once we get things right we will start climbing the table. Watford have been in very good form in recent weeks but, as with any opponent in this division, we know if we play well we are capable of getting the result.
