Crystal Palace have had their request for last Saturday's controversial defeat at Bristol City to be replayed rejected by the Football League.

The south Londoners were left livid with referee Rob Shoebridge and his assistant Chris Knowles when they refused to award Palace a perfectly legitimate goal through Freddie Sears in the 33rd minute.

The officials awarded a goal kick when the ball clearly hit the netting framework a yard inside the post.

Palace eventually lost the game 1-0 thanks to Nicky Maynard's 89th minute strike.

However, the Football League insist the game won't be replayed.

Football League Chief Operating Officer, Andy Williamson, said: "The Football League cannot sanction the replaying of this fixture.

"In any match the referee's decision must be final, even in a case such as this where there has been an error of judgment.

"To do other otherwise would be contrary to the laws of the game.

"With regard to the use of goal-line technology, the League has been saying for some considerable time that we would be happy to trial a prototype system in its competitions.

"However, until the law-making bodies of the world game sanction the use of any such system this cannot happen."
