Freedman on verge of Shrimpers switch
Palace legend Dougie Freedman will head down to Southend later this evening to put pen to paper on a two-year deal.
The Advertiser exclusively revealed last week that the 34-year-old forward would meet with Shrimpers officials with a view to thrashing out a permanent move.
And the Advertiser can now reveal that the weekend's talks were successful and Freedman will sign for the Essex club later today barring any last minute hitches.
Freedman has been told by Palace boss Neil Warnock that he has no future at Selhurst Park.

“Everyone knows he was a good
player,but his legs have gone,
and for a long time he has not
been a 90 minutes man.His
goalscoring ability disappeared
some time ago 7 goals in over
100 appearances shows that.
As he wished to continue playing dropping down a level
was the only answer, and I hope
he does well.

“Before Beecee says anything, bob of Southend is not me, it just goes to show it was not only me who thought what a waste letting Dougie go and no we do not all wear rose tinted glasses in fact I think with the exception (beecee) we all can see clearly what talent Dougie has and what is happening at Selhurst Pk let all the talent go.”

“Best of luck to a Palace legend! All of us fans will miss you.
Southend you have got a quality player who will bring the younger strikers through and i would expect finish top goalscorer for you this season.
See you in 2-3 years when you are back home as manager of the Eagles.
Who let the doug out!!”
