Division Three

Ashford 185 Warlingham 176-9

Warlingham snatched a draw from the jaws of victory when chasing the 185 set by Ashford.

Nigel Field and Shane Patel added 78 for the second wicket to leave the home side needing 88 in 19 overs but after Patel was out for 49, easily his best innings for the first XI so far, the home team rather lost the plot and only 20 runs came of the next eight overs as two further wickets fell.

Skipper Alex Pizzey came in unexpectedly late at No. 6 and he and Field made slightly better progress against the accurate bowling of Asif Prasala and Richard Mansfield.

Then Pizzey was bowled in the first over of Riaz Khan's second spell for 15 and the innings faltered as Warlingham then needed only 25 in 26 balls.

Field get the scoreboard ticking over, but the other batsmen lacked the firepower leaving 11 needed in the last over with six wickets down. Desperation then caused three run-outs, one of them Field for 75, and Warlingham finished on 176-9.

Mahesh Amin was Warlingham's most successful bowler taking 3-51 in his 19-over spell while several Ashford batsmen failed to capitalise on promising starts; only Paul Frost going on to make 42.

They were looking to declare at about half-way, but Nihal Patel spared them the trouble by taking the last two wickets in the 15th over.
