Heavy traffic in Croydon as Christmas shoppers hit the town
CROYDON'S busiest roads are in gridlock and part of the tramlink is suspended as Christmas shoppers flock into the town centre.
Trams are not running between East Croydon station and Reeves Corner due to the high volume of traffic, and bus routes throughout the borough are subject to long delays.
-

Cars queuing to join the flyover have blocked the tram tracks at stops including Church Street and George Street.
Traffic on Tamworth Road is not moving as motorists wait to enter Centrale car park, and roads including the A232 Croydon Flyover, the A236 Old Town and the A212 Park Lane are all experiencing heavy traffic.

An incident at East Croydon station compounded the traffic misery, with a train held after a passenger was taken ill.
Paramedics remain at the scene treating the patient, understood to be a man in his 80s.
The 16.06 Victoria to Brighton was being held at the platform as crews waited for the ambulance.
Trains via East Croydon are now subject to minor delays.
A signalling problem in the Purley area is causing further disruption.
The issue was reported at 5.25pm, and passengers are being warned of delays of up to an hour.
Buses are now replacing trains between Purley and Caterham, and Purley and Tattenham Corner.

“The trouble is you only need a few selfish drivers to bring busy roads/trams to a halt.”

“We shopped on Saturday and there weren't that many people about. Why are they all shopping tonight? I can understand why they drive, as they wouldn't be able to carry all their shopping by public transport.”

“Nicecityboy.
Yes, can see your way of thinking. But in my opinion, car drivers know exactly what they are doing(supposed to when getting behind a wheel of a car) and those who jump in front of trains, are NOT in the right mind at the time, by perhaps depression(illness)”

“Where are all the cops? All it takes is one bloke standing at each place blowing a whistle and pointing at anyone who dares stop on the lines. People will soon get the hint.”

“tbabygib:
Just how selfish are people?
Try thinking "I'M NOT THAT IMPORTANT TO STOP PUBLIC TRANSPORT""
Now you see what I think about people who jump in front of trains - EXACTLY this.”
