A SUMMER fair in Shirley proved a roaring success with more than 200 visitors and lots of sunshine.

Families enjoyed games, crafts and historic walks at last Saturday's Millers Pond summer fair. There were stalls hosted by 26 local organisations, from the RSPCA to residents' associations.

Pearl Durling, chairman of the Friends of Millers Pond, who organised the fair, said: "It was just what a community gathering should be – peaceful and fun.

"There was a lovely village fĂȘte-type atmosphere, and many people found out more about local organisations that contribute to their area.

"Many visitors who came along were recalling happy memories."
