"Croydon is one of the busiest stores in the UK, which is why we are launching it here.

"We did our own research which highlights how much people love letting pets into the bedroom so we are hoping the trial will be popular with the people of Croydon."

The superstore has said it carried out a survey with customers which gave them paws for thought on the services they currently offer in-store.

Pippa continued: "We found that nearly a third of people in London allow their pet into the bedroom and 41 per cent of people let them sleep in their bed.

However, the research also shows this is affecting our ability to get a good night's sleep, as 67 per cent say their pets take up too much space in bed and 43 per cent have booted out their partner as a result.

"We're hoping our crash test moggy and doggy are a step further to help our customers from Croydon find the best solution to meet their needs."

The crash test dogs and cats will feature in a number of sizes for customers to make sure they get the right fit, from labradors to lap dogs.

“They let dogs walk around with their owners in Swiss branches of Ikea! It is a bit surprising at first, but the dogs seem happy and the Swiss are so particular about keeping everything clean, tidy and efficient that they wouldn't let dogs in if they caused problems.

Croydon may be a bit different, though! Not that my dog would cause a problem, you understand.”
