As Andrew Flintoff prepares to retire from test cricket, England fans and pundits have worried that there is nobody capable of filling his boots.

He may not be ready yet, but in a few years' time Jaibir Dhanoa hopes that he might be just that man.

The 12-year-old all rounder will be the envy of his friends this October when he joins a team from Croydon's Trinity School to tour the Caribbean island of Grenada.

The talented youngster plays cricket up to four times a week.

Often he plays for his school on a Friday afternoon before playing for Old Mid-Whitgiftians Colts the same evening.

Then Saturdays can again see matches for both teams.

Cameron Knight, from Old Mid-Whitgiftians, said: "We're so pleased for him that he has won a tour place.

"He's such a talented boy who can bat and bowl well, is a useful fielder, has captained the team and can also keep wicket."

Jaibir's finest moment to date came when he was just 10 years old.

He played for the club against a touring team comprising talented youngsters from the Indian city of Mumbai.

Jaibir took six wickets and walked away with the man-of-the-match award.

Mr Knight added: "I've known Jaibir for about three years since he first joined the club.

"He is getting better and better, and his confidence is growing. He thinks tactically when he plays and is a real influence on every match."

Jaibir, who lives in Dovercourt Avenue, Thornton Heath, said: "I'm really excited about the Grenada trip.

"I've never been to the Caribbean before.

"I only started playing cricket about four years ago when I was a pupil at Cumnor House, in South Croydon.

"We would play a match in the playground and then I got on to the school team.

"I'd like to eventually go on and play for a bigger team, but it's too early to say whether I should try and become a full-time cricketer when I leave school."
