A defector who switched parties is the Tory choice to fight the Caterham Hill seat in June's Surrey County Council elections.

Sakina Bradbury, a Tandridge district councillor for Whyteleafe, dramatically changed allegiance from the Liberal Democrats to the Conservatives back in February.

and will be defended."

Mrs Bradbury, who defied Liberal Democrat calls to stand down after she switched parties, said: "I have lived in Caterham for 21 years, run my own business locally and have been a district councillor since 2002.

"My achievements in our community make me both

experienced and confident to represent residents at county level."

Chris Botten, Liberal Democrat group leader, said: "Its up to the Tories who they choose.

"But I do find it ironic that her party's latest newsletter has a picture of Sakina by potholes in Buxton Lane, Caterham - when these holes should have been sorted out by a Tory administration."

His party has not yet chosen its candidate to fight the seat.

He said it was concentrating its efforts on contesting a seat on Caterham on the Hill Parish Council where the election is due on Thursday.
