Kenley parking campaigners march on town hall
CAMPAIGNERS opposing the council's move to reissue parking tickets in Golf Road, Kenley, marched on the town hall this week.
Members of Golf Road User Group descended on the council offices to hand in a petition with 344 signatures gathered from the village in little more than a month.

Golf Road parking campaigner Brigitte Taylor presents the petition to Councillor Steve O'Connell
Croydon Council's member for Kenley, Steve O'Connell, who supports the residents' campaign, received the petition on the town hall steps on Monday.
Plans to fine drivers who park in Golf Road were announced in December. The road's future will now be discussed at a council meeting on Wednesday.
Campaigner Brigitte Taylor said: "The support has been fantastic and I hope we can now reach a compromise on people being allowed to continue using the road which they have been doing for the last 50 years.
"I recently filled in a council questionnaire which asked me if I felt I had the power to affect decisions in my area, and I feel that is what we're doing here, and I hope the council listens."
In May last year, the Advertiser reported that the council had refunded fines issued to angry motorists after admitting it had misread the rules. Now a U-turn due to "changes in legislation" means drivers parking in the road will again face £110 fines.
Hundreds of residents from Purley, Kenley and Coulsdon use the road every week before walking across Kenley Common.
Chris Stanley, a petition volunteer, said: "Not only has it brought the community together, it's made a community. People we otherwise wouldn't have had any contact with have come forward to show their support."
