Little children go on minibeast safari
CHILDREN uncovered creepy-crawlies in their hiding places as the Friends of Littleheath Woods took them on a nature tour.
The group organised the mini-beast hunt on Saturday as part of Green Croydon for All, a programme run by the borough's conservation groups which invites residents to enjoy nature in the borough.
Shirley Shephard, Littleheath Woods committee member and leader of the hunt, was pleased at the turnout.
The former teacher said: "We had about 33 people show up, so it was a success.
"We shook trees overhead to see what we could find, swept a net over long grass and looked under logs.
"The group found centipedes, grasshoppers, millipedes, bush crickets and even a frog.
"You never know how these things will go, so it was a good variety to find and we were kept busy by all the discoveries."
Despite the rain, the expedition inspected their finds in plastic dishes and under magnifying glasses.
