One homeowner had more to contend with than just the snow this week - after a lorry skidded and ploughed into their front garden.

Two recovery vehicles had to pull out the truck in Old Farleigh Road, Selsdon, which had skidded in the icy conditions on Wednesday, at around 9.30am.

Resident Anne Giles, from Osprey Gardens, Selsdon, who sent in this picture, said: "The snow's spectacular, the council keep gritting the roads but the snow keeps falling and is catching up with them.

"The roads here are quite icy, so I hope lorry drivers stay put until the weather clears up.

"It must have been shocking for the person who lives in the house, they must have been wondering if it was going to hit their front door."

“Its just a very British thing.
As the Europeans from around the Med would say in Britain people live for work in the Med people work to live.
I'm sorry Anne but educated people use their education to accumulate sufficient funds to follow their passions.”

“Nothing wrong with people working after retirement age, if they feel well enough to do it, then goodluck to them. Its also a good idea, that if someone has been ill along time, and would like to go back to work, its nice to know that they can work longer now. The best people to do the jobs are the ones that all ready have the knowledge, and maybe they can train the younger people that want to work.”

“Like many educated people, I have never earned enough to accumulate anything. Many of my very educated friends are not at all well off. Many uneducated people doing cash in hand jobs and not paying tax seem to be rolling in money. Working beyond retirement age has become a necessity for many of us and we all entitled to do this. We are not doing anyone out of anything. They simply choose to live off unemployment benefit and stay at home watching TV.”

“Working after retirement age is doing people out of jobs.
Educated people retire early as they have accumulated funds to enjoy life.”

“To be honest, I think I was misquoted. Lorry drivers do need to deliver, of course. Perhaps they need to change their delivery times and wait till the roads are properly gritted. Sainsbury's were due to deliver to our home this afternoon, but cancelled, because of the snow. Their branch in Warlingham was thick with snow, whereas the Selsdon branch was fine, so we collected.”

“I do have a very good NHS GP and an exceptionally good Consultant Haematologist at Mayday Hospital. Nothing to do with the story, of course. I do agree, though, everyone should be entitled to proper treatment. Unfortunately, too many are fobbed off with pills, pills and more pills. I am sure it depends on the area as well.”

“It's the difference between being lazy and being hardworking.

I dont agree with that at all, it doesnt apply to everyone. Some people come down very sick at an early age, ending there work career very fast. But yet still get offered poor treatment. (yet again, nothing to do with the story)”
