MAYDAY Hospital has been renamed as Croydon University Hospital – albeit unofficially at this point.

The name change – which is expected to be officially signed off by the Health Secretary in a month's time – was made last week.

It followed the new configuration of Croydon's health services on August 1, which sees the hospital tied to health services throughout the community.

A hospital spokeswoman said: "We've changed the name but it's not legal yet."

The trust – officially Mayday Healthcare NHS Trust – is now being called Croydon Health Services because it "provides hospital and community services from a number of clinics throughout the borough".

These include Purley Hospital for outpatient appointments and diagnostic tests, community bases in Purley, Sanderstead, New Addington, Broad Green and Woodside, and a minor injuries unit in New Addington.
